This short video shows you the basics of how to do the beginner fireman spin.
It's not quite an airborne move, but for beginners it will give you the feeling of what a spin is going to feel like once you're ready to get off the ground.
In the meantime, this fun move allows you to keep both feet on the floor while getting a taste of what it's like to fly!
The instructor in this video points out some good technique issues to be aware of. For example...
Learn a Beginners' Version of the Fireman Spin
...notice her emphasis on getting both hands solidly on the pole before you kick in with the leg momentum. This is a good habit to develop before you start learning more spins!
Of course, as you gain more experience and are ready to move into one handed spins and such, you obviously won't need to worry about using both hands all the time. But for now, let's be safe, OK?
If you're just getting started with spins, this version of the beginner fireman is a great place to begin. However, one thing not covered in this particular video is the exit from this move.
Because your body is rotating around the pole, you'll probably feel like you want to continue that rotation as you stand up and finish the move, especially if you have a lot of momentum going into the drop.
One way to do this is to allow your body to continue turning under your right (or dominant) arm as you stand up.
You'll need to release your left hand momentarily to get safely under your arm. As well, you'll want to loosen your grip with your right hand, to allow your palm to pivot against the pole as your body passes under your arm.
Finish with your back to the pole, right arm above your head and left arm behind your back. Pose! As you get the feel for this, you can allow your momentum to really carry you through so you finish with a real flare.
If you play around with it just a bit, I'm sure you can figure out other possibilities for exiting this move. After all, that's half the fun of playing around with pole dancing techniques...making up new moves!
