Do You Need A
Pole Dance Safety Mat?

A pole dance safety mat or crash pad is definitely a good idea if you're ready to start learning intermediate and advanced tricks.

Especially if you're learning on your own at home from a pole dancing DVD or other DIY method, a crash mat can be a real life saver...no pun intended!

Of course it's always a good idea to have a spotter when learning inversions and advanced aerial moves.

But you'll feel even more comfortable if you know there's a soft landing waiting for you in case you (or your spotter) slips up.

Pole Dance Safety Mat

The first safety mat I can recommend is this one, made by Lil' Mynx, who also happens to be my favourite maker of pole dancing poles, so I know this is a quality product.

Lil' Mynx is big on safety, which shows in the design of their dance poles. It's also why they're one of the few dance pole manufacturers to offer safety mats along with their main product line.

This mat measures 4' square and is 2.5" thick. Some people will prefer something a bit thicker, but if cost is a concern for you, this pole crash pad will do an adequate job at a reasonable price.

Pole Dance Safety mat

Made by a professional gymnastics mat company, this mat is designed specifically with pole dancing safety in mind. It simply folds in half to store, then flips out when you're ready to use it, fitting snugly around the base.

The covering complies with minimum flame resistance requirements for the state of California. It wipes clean, and is both UV protected and mildew/rot/fungus resistant.

If you're looking for a good, basic safety mat while you learn how to pole dance, this one fits the bill.

More Pole Dance Safety Mats Coming Soon!

I'm always on the lookout for new and helpful products, such as pole dancing mats. When I find others that measure up, I'll be sure to let you know.

In the meantime, you can also have a look over to the right, where I've posted links to a few other mats I found on Amazon. Feel free to have a look and compare.

Something To Keep In Mind...

Remember that to be truly useful, your pole crash pad has to be easy to set up and use, otherwise it's likely to remain in the corner. This usually means it should be fairly lightweight and easy to secure in place.

It should also be thick enough for your personal needs and preferences. If you're a lightweight you may not need as much cushioning as someone who's heavier, but you may just feel more secure with a thicker mat.

Finally, keep in mind that thickness isn't all that matters. Check into the density of the foam used in the mat you're considering. A very thick pole dance safety mat that uses low density or poor quality foam can be worse than a relatively thin mat constructed of high density foam.
