Portable Dance Pole Information

Portable dance poles are a popular choice for several reasons. Most obviously, they can be removed and reinstalled whenever you like, and they can be easily transported from place to place. At least in theory.

The trouble is that the term "portable" can be misleading. Or perhaps more accurately, different people have different opinions on what constitutes portable.

For example, let's say you have a platform pole, one of the ones on a 4'x4' plywood base. If you also own a truck or cargo van, and you have an extra set of hands to help load and unload it, you might consider this to be a portable pole.

However, if you're like me and you drive a Toyota Echo, you're definitely not thinking portable when you think platform pole! Not that I don't love my little car, but as spacious as it is there's just no way I'm getting a 4'x4' pole base in it. Trust me, I've tried!

So, for the purposes of this discussion, let's define a portable pole as one that breaks down into several pieces, fits into a carrying case of some kind, and can be easily transported in a small vehicle. Like the X-Pole below, for example.

Best Uses

Rather obviously, a portable pole will appeal to you if you need to be able to move your pole easily from place to place. If you do home pole dancing parties for example, a portable pole is a must.

If you perform pole dancing at shows or parties, or you own a studio and attend trade shows as an exhibitor, a portable pole may also be a good choice, though for trade shows in arenas and other large, open areas, a platform dance pole may be a better option.

Even if you only plan to use your pole in your own home, you may want to consider a portable pole simply for ease of storage. If you want to be able to remove your pole but are concerned about where you're going to put all 8+ feet of it, a portable pole that breaks down and tucks away neatly in a case may be just the ticket.

Lil' Mynx has a nice quality, two piece portable dance pole that packs up neatly in a hard case. It's great if you move your pole around a lot, as the case protects your pole and all the accessories.

Portable Dance Pole Pros and Cons

Many people consider a portable dance pole (also known as a portable stripper pole) to be the most convenient of all the dance poles available. It's compact and stores easily, can be transported without much trouble, and can be installed almost anywhere as long as the ceiling height and structure is appropriate.

On the downside, this convenience comes at a price, as these poles tend to be one of the more expensive choices. When you factor in the extra manufacturing costs to create a pole that can be safely dismantled, and the cost of a carrying case or bag, it's easy to see why these poles are a bit more pricey.

If you're planning to start or join a pole dancing party company, then a portable pole may well be worth the extra cost. After all, you can't very well be drilling holes in your hostess's ceiling, and it's not really very practical to lug a platform pole across town just for an hour or two of fun!

On the other hand, if your main consideration is being able to take your pole down when your mother-in-law comes to visit, then a one-piece friction fit or a removable pole may be a more economical choice for you.

As with a friction fit pole, safety is a concern with this type of pole, since portable poles are often used with a friction fit mount. Be sure to read the safety information below to be sure you understand what you should know about portable pole safety before you buy.

Portable Dance Pole Safety

The safety information for portable pole dancing poles is much the same as for a friction fit pole, since they will often use the same type of installation.

In addition, there are a few specific safety tips you should consider when buying or using a portable dance pole.

Because these poles need to be assembled each time you install them, you'll want to ensure you're familiar with all the parts and tools required for assembly, and make sure you always put them in the same place so you always have them with you.

There's nothing worse than discovering you're missing an important part when you arrive at a party or a class location. If you don't have what you need you may be tempted to try to set up your pole anyway, and that's a recipe for disaster. Remember: a place for everything, and everything in its place.

When you first get your portable pole, it's important to spend some time practicing assembling it so that you feel confident you've put it together and installed it correctly. You'll probably be excited when your pole first arrives and want to get right to it, but taking your time to ensure a safe assembly and installation will be time well spent.

Be sure to use care when putting your pole together, in order to avoid damaging the finish. If you use excessive force, you may scratch the coating or worse, damage an internal mechanism that is essential for the safe installation of your pole. If something isn't going together properly, re-read the instructions to be sure you're doing it correctly, check for any damage or wear, and if all else fails, contact the manufacturer for advice.

By following these simple safety tips, you'll increase your confidence and ensure a safer experience for yourself and your friends, students or party participants.
