This pole dance video clip shows an instructor teaching the basics of the sunwheel spin.
This is a beginner level move that would be a nice challenge once you've learned a few variations on the fireman spin.
The grip and direction of movement are the same, so these aspects of the spin will feel familiar.
It's a bit more challenging than other beginner spins though, because you'll only have one leg on the pole. For that reason, you'll want to be careful about potential bruising on your ankle!
Learn The Sunwheel Spin
The sound for this video has a bit of an echo to it, likely due to the studio environment in which it was filmed, and the fact that the teacher isn't wearing a mic. But it's nothing major and doesn't really detract from the main purpose of the video, which is to teach you this move.
The instructor uses a technique I always found very helpful in my classes, which is to get down on the floor to demonstrate foot and leg placement.
I often had students practice new techniques on the floor first - especially inversions - before attempting them on the pole. That way, they could focus on learning where everything goes before having to put everything in the right place while in the air!
She also touches on the importance of using of the abdominal muscles to help this spin look great.
It's a short clip, less than a minute, but contains all the basic information for learning this spin. Now it's up to you to give it a go. Remember, practice makes perfect!
